Sick

So I went to work this morning and around 11:30 I came down with a splitting headache. Came home and went back to bed. I still feel like crap now. It's annoying because I don't get sick very often. Will eventually have to go find some food.

More craziness

Things have been crazy lately. Been spending most nights working on the MemVidia project. Spent last night trying to figure out why the new Hauppauge PVR 150 card kept blue-screening my Win2k system. No luck. Sent in a request to tech support.

Turns out there are drivers for the card for Linux, but both Fedora and Red Hat 9 don't have it by default. In an attempt to update to the latest kernel so I could get the source code, I screwed up up2date so now I can't do any more updates. Crap. The whole thing is broken. Will probably have to do a backup and rebuild the system. I've needed to rebuild it anyway, but it's still a bitch.

Also got Adobe Premier installed so I can look at how some of the other GUIs work. Premier's interface isn't bad, but I don't think it's intuitive enough. If I can't figure it out in thirty seconds, there's no chance our target audience will be able to figure it out. Will have to look at some other applications.

Talked to Jen a couple of nights ago. She's going to get me the info for her home inspector so I can get him to look into Joe's house.

"Serendipity" is on in the background. I'm such a sap.

Ok, back to work. Think I'll make myself some hot chocolate. Sis got me some kickass hot chocolate in three flavors. Yum.

Busy Busy Busy

Been pretty busy the last couple of days. Work is the same. Getting things done. No real problems.

The MemVidia project (as we're now calling it) is coming along well. Paul's code worked, and I generated 107,000 JPEG frames from an episode of The West Wing. Was able to successfully browse a timeline of the entire episode as well. Of course, the goal would be to have CGI generate the frames on the fly, rather than batch processing 100k frames. That's next, I suppose. Also need to get the timeline to scroll, as the timeline looks fine with ten frames but with a 100k, the scene changes don't quite fit.

Making progress.... Just have to keep plugging at it.

Valentine's day (sort of)

So it's February 12, but Naomi and I are celebrating Valentine's Day today since she has to be in school on Monday. Night on the town in the City, dinner at Cafe Lalo's. Should be good.

Work is progressing on the project with Paul. Created a mock timeline in Flash on Thursday that has the core elements and the ability to render arbitrary frames. It looks like crap, but it's a start.

Have to run now. Must drop of laundry, haircut, and pickup a card before she gets here.

Livejournal theme

Holy crap. I need to pick a better theme for my LiveJournal. UGLY!

Hi ho. Hi ho...

Yesterday was just another fun day at work. After having a Ken-free week, he is back now and I'm reminded of why I don't want to work here anymore. Things are progressing though and I'm trying to avoid his distractions.

Starting to feel a bit guilty over this whole thing with Paul. He's making tremendous progress with his side of the project, and I feel like my side is going nowhere. I get home after a ten hour day and just feel two braindead to do more work.

Marc dropped by last night unexpectedly. Went to the diner and got some dinner/coffee. Reminds me of how much I miss living in South Jersey.

... Which brings me to the phone call from Mom...

Apparently she and Cindi think they will need to sell Joe's house, and they want me to buy it. The price looks reasonable, but all the usual concerns apply: It's a committment. I would have to go back to a one hour commute to Netilla. If I end up doing this thing with Paul I'm all the way in South Jersey. If I want to get a job in NYC then I would be stuck with a house I own in Wall.

But there are some upsides too: Equity. Privacy. Living back in South Jersey near the friends/family. I could eventually put an addition on the place.

Anyway, need to think about it some more.

On a sidenote, Naomi said something kind of odd last night. She said she preferred me hanging out with Kyle over Marc. This is depsite the fact that Kyle is a woman (in particular an ex-girlfriend), because she thinks Marc is a bad influence on me. She cites the whole Canada incident as an example. Too funny.

Ok, off to work. Also need to find a tuxedo shop so I can get measured. Apparently the shop I went to on Saturday declared me to be seven feet tall and fat. Thanks to Dan for pointing this out after I sent him the measurements. Otherwise things could have been very interesting when I got to Altanta for the fitting.

Monday

Long day at work. Ken was out today, which is odd because as far as everybody knew, he was supposed to be back today. Rumor has it that Virgin Atlantic had been calling around the office, presumably because his flight got screwed up. Anyway, he wasn't here.

Put together a status update for last week, and found that crap, I did alot last week.

Naomi and Heather came over at 11:30 last night after the Super Bowl party. It was good to see them, but since I didn't get to bed until 2:00 as a result, I'm pretty tired.

So we're going to see how well this whole LiveJournal thing works. I remember telling Marc that only an idiot would put their journal online since everybody could see their supposedly most intimate thoughts. Yet, here I am.

More later.
